DU Increases Fee for Answer Sheet Re-Evaluation

New Delhi: Delhi University (DU) has increased answer sheet re-evaluation fee for the students studying under the annual system. The re-evaluation fee has been increased by 100%, which makes it to Rs 1000, as against the earlier Rs 500, for each paper. This would make re-evaluation of answer scripts a costly affair for students.

In the same context, Ujjaini Ray, Professor of English, Lady Sri Ram (LSR) college, said that the decision has been taken to dispirit students from applying for re-evaluation. Ray clarified that a lot of care is already taken to ensure that the papers are checked properly and there is little room for error in judgement. And if a paper has to be re-evaluated, it is checked all over again, which increases the burden on the system, she added.

Ray further explained that in the re-evaluation process, the marks previously assigned by the examiner are blanked out and new marks are assigned. If the difference between the two marks is less than five, then the initial marks are retained. If the difference is more than that, then an average of both marks is taken and assigned, which makes it a lengthy process, she concluded.

Furthermore, RC Sharma, dean of examination said that re-evaluation is a very expensive procedure. There are logistical expenses that are incurred such as petrol cost and postage expenses as the answer scripts have to be sent to the evaluator and he, too, has to be paid. Sharma further clarified that there is no profit making tactic behind this hike and credited this change to increased operational and logistical expenses, in tandem with current inflationary trends.
