New Delhi: This year, the first cut off list of Delhi University (DU) for undergraduate course admission left students perplexed with big jump in the qualifying marks. Also, in one of its affiliated colleges, the cut-off touched 100 %. HRD Minister Kapil Sibal has termed this development as very sad.
As per sources, the Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) fixed the cut-off for its B.Com (Honors) course at 100 % for non-commerce applicants. For B.A. Economics (Honors) course the cut-off is 98.25 %. Most colleges affiliated to DU have fixed very high cut-offs for various undergraduate courses. Moreover, admission to Science course too has tremendous rise in qualifying marks.
For e.g, in Daulat Ram College, the rise in the cut-off for B.Sc. Chemistry (Honors) was 13 % over last year and Gargi College saw a rise of 12 %. Gurpreet Singh Tuteja, dean of the Students Welfare Office has said that colleges have exercised caution before declaring the first list. He said that aspirants are advised not to get discouraged. In addition, he said that most of the colleges are expected to announce four more lists.
Students who meet the eligibility of the first cut-off list can take admission from June 16 to 20, 2011. DU will declare the second cut-off list on June 21. This year, a total of five lists will be announced, unlike four in the past. The enrollment session at DU will continue till July 13. Delhi University's academic year will commence from July 15, 2011.
