New Delhi: The Health Ministry will keep the health education under its domain. As per sources, the decision has been taken regarding the issue that whether medical education in India should be under the sponsorship of the National Commission for Higher Education and Research (NCHER) or the National Council for Human Resource in Health (NCHRH).
Further, sources informed that the Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry had proposed the names of NCHER and NCHRH. As per the new formulations, both NCHER and NCHRH will operate separately. The medical education in India would be a part of NCHRH but linkages would also be set up with NCHER regarding the quality, content and curriculum of the education.
In addition, sources told that Kapil Sibal, FRD Minister has given his approval to the new formulations. Besides, Health minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has approved the formulations. A senior official said that the formulation still needs to be fine tuned further. The official added that an agreement had been reached on the nature of linkage between the NCHER and the NCHRH.
Sources informed that the next meeting between the NCHER and the NCHRH will be held on February 15, 2011. The agenda of the meeting would be to finalize the formulations.
