HP Technical Education Minister Recommends Centre to Open IIIT in the State

Shimla: Himachal Pradesh Technical Education Minister, Narendar Bragta, has recommended the centre to open an Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) in the state. As per sources, he met the Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Kapil Sibal and talked about his demand of having an IIIT in Himachal Pradesh.
 
On Thursday i.e. February 17, 2011, Mr. Bragta has said in a statement that the state had already identified 132 acres of land for the institute. As per sources, if centre shows the green signal to the proposal, the state government is ready to offer the land free of cost. The state government is also ready to spend 35% of the total expenditure for the project.
 
I D Dhiman, Education Minister, had said that the Centre should come up with first IIIT in the state to strengthen the technical education. He said this on Wednesday i.e. February 16, 2011. As per sources, Himachal Pradesh has one IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) and National Institute of Information Technology until now.
