IGNOU Convocation Scheduled on April 2

New Delhi: Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has announced the date of its 22nd Convocation, which is to be conducted on April 2, 2011.
 
During the Convocation, the university will award degrees and diplomas to about 215, 000 students, as quoted by a university official. He also added that apart from the degrees and diplomas, 78 students across the country will be honored with gold medals.
 
As per the sources, Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister, Kapil Sibbal will grace the event as the chief guest. The convocation will be conducted at the Sanchar Kendra at the IGNOU headquarters located in New Delhi.
 
In addtion, to facilitate the transportation of students and guests for the convocation, a committee for Liaison, Transport and Accommodation etc, has been formed by the Vice Chancellor V.N. Rajasekharan Pillai. The committee has organized five mini buses and 20 Gramin Sewa vehicles for the transportation purpose.
 
The main pick points will be Saket Metro Station and Saket (Traffic Court, Near Anupam Apartment). Sources said that around 6,628 students including 12 gold medalists are from Delhi only. Students who have passed their Master, Bachelor and Diploma examinations held in December 2009 and June 2010 are eligible for award of degrees/ diplomas.
 
Students who have registered for getting their degree certificates in person at convocation will only be permitted to attend the convocation at New Delhi and at their respective regional centers. The ceremony will be telecasted from the designated regional centers across the country through teleconferencing.
