IGNOU & FDDI Introduce Eight New Courses

New Delhi: Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) in association with Footwear Design and Development Institute (FDDI) introduces eight new programmes. The announcement was made on Tuesday i.e. on May 3, 2011 by an IGNOU official. IGNOU Vice Chancellor V.N. Rajasekharan Pillai said that under this collaboration FDDI will impart full-time training and IGNOU would offer the degrees to the students.
 
According to statement issued by officials, the programmes are introduced with an aim to familiarize footwear industries and their research and development laboratories. In addition, it also intends to initiate new educational programmes and to promote the knowledge of practicing workers, semi-skilled and skilled personnel in footwear industries.
 
Out of the total eight courses introduced, five are undergraduate (UG) degree level and three postgraduate degree level programmes, which include fashion merchandizing and retail management, footwear technology, creative designing, leather goods and accessories design among others.
                                                                                                              
Furthermore, Mr Pillai mentioned that these programmes will open new avenues for students and it will help in producing trained manpower for export-oriented industries working in field of footwear, leather and other allied products. He added that with this new development, students would be able to apply for higher study and also apply for central or state government jobs.
