New Delhi: Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) will be offering Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) and Master of Philosophy (M Phil) degrees in Economics in face-to-face mode. An IGNOU Spokesperson said that this has been started keeping in view the fact that the students find it difficult to comprehend the technical nature and advanced version of the compulsory and optional courses prescribed as pre-PhD course work.
As per sources, IGNOU recognized research institutions such as National Institute of Public Finance and Policy (New Delhi), Madras School of Economics (Chennai), Institute for Human Development (New Delhi) and Gujarat Institute of Development Research (Ahmedabad) for offering PhD and M Phil degrees in Economics under joint collaboration with the university.
Further, the official said that more institutions are likely to be identified for offering research degree programme in Economics under joint collaboration with IGNOU. As per sources, there are 34 candidates for PhD programme and 19 candidates for M Phil programme who have been registered at present.
