Ahmedabad: Students of Indian Institute of Management – Ahmedabad (IIM-A) flagship programme are witnessing a prolong placement session, this year. As per sources, for the first time, final placement of post-graduate programme in management (PGP) at IIM-A will go ahead of the institute's annual convocation that was held on March 26. The final placement process at IIM-A, which began on February 12, is yet to be over with a student of the batch yet to be placed.
Saral Mukherjee, faculty at IIM-A and chairperson of its placement committee, said that they have just one student left to be placed now. He said that there are enough job offers but it is more to do with the student's preference. The student has not been getting jobs of his choice. He also added that, in fact, placements were much better this year and there were many job offers.
Moreover, as for the placement process extending beyond the institute's annual convocation day Mukherjee said that he don't remember of any such case earlier. Justifying the longer duration of the placement process, he said that because of the cohort-based placement system, which spreads over a longer duration, students are getting opportunity to choose the jobs of their choice. Besides, he also mentioned that placements will continue till three months after the convocation or till all students are placed after which we will release final details.
Sources informed that most PGP students at IIM-A got placed by the end of four clusters after which, it was converted into a rolling placement. Even after the institute's annual convocation around 12 students of the post-graduate programme in management for executives (PGPX) are to be placed. The students of the one-year post-graduate programme have left their hostels in the campus to make space for the next (sixth) batch of students.
Furthermore, Mr Mukherjee IIM-A's placement committee chairperson while talking about the placement of PGPX programme students, said this is not new for PGPX; they had a similar situation last year as well. But they got the students placed within three months after the convocation. He added that this year too they are continuing to support the students in getting them the jobs of their choice.
