Bangalore: Indian Institute of Management-Bangalore (IIM-B) is likely to make work experience mandatory for enrollment into its flagship two-year post-graduate programme.
IIM B, an internal committee, is likely to make many changes for admission into its flagship post-graduate programme. The committee has recommended many changes like increasing weightage for leadership potential, ethical and social sensitivity, making 22 month work experience mandatory for admission, reducing emphasis on extremely high percentile in Common Admission Test and making summer placements optional for students.
As per sources, IIM-B is planning to modify the way students are selected, what they will be taught and how they should be assessed. Moreover, on asking the IIM-B to cut down on the emphasis on CAT scores during admission, the committee headed by Prof C Manohar Reddy has recommended increasing the weightage for leadership potential, ethical and social sensitivity. It has also proposed making work experience of at least 22 months mandatory.
Beside, the committee also wants at least 10% of the batch to include international students within the next decade to enhance diversity. The Class of 2011 and 2012 has 23% and 28% students respectively without work experience. In addition, the committee has recommended making summer internship optional.
