IIM-B to Set Up its Second Campus in Anekal

Bangalore: The Indian Institute of Management-Bangalore (IIM-B) will soon open its second campus in Mahanthalingapura in Anekal taluk (Jigani hobli). The state government has leased 110 acres for the second campus of IIM-B.
 
Sources have informed that the upcoming campus of IIM-B is almost the same size as that of the existing one in South Bangalore. Also, it will host IIM-B's proposed incubation centre, which aims at encouraging entrepreneurship besides executive education programmes. Moreover, IIM-B announced that it doesn't favour having split campuses in other Indian cities, unlike, IIM-Ahmedabad and IIM-Lucknow who have opened their campuses in other states.
 
Pankaj Chandra, IIM-B Director, said that IIM-B is strongly embedded in the state of Karnataka as they believe that they can add value when they are rooted in one place. He mentioned that many chief ministers have invited them to set up campuses in their states. But, they felt that Karnataka is an exciting place to be and having a campus in Bangalore is good for their economy. He also added that split campuses bring with them the problem of splitting resources, especially faculty.
 
Furthermore, Chandra said it will take time period of around of two months to firm up its plans for the second campus. He informed that the upcoming campus will be developed considering the fact regarding the institute's vision and growth plans for the next 50-100 years. He said that they will definitely be introducing more programmes, students and faculty at the new campus. Besides, there will be an extensive entrepreneurship activity which will rejuvenate the economy of the state.
