New Delhi: Good news for those students willing to take admission in several undergraduate courses at Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) University. The university has decided to simplify its enrollment criteriaand introduce array of new courses.The university has declared that the students have to appear only for single common entrance test for each discipline instead of multiple entrance tests for taking admission in any course.
The university in its last year process had around 50 entrance tests but as per current process its have only eight entrance tests for undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Moreover, social group students interested in BBS, B.Com, economics, BA with computer application and hotel management will have to appear for one common examination. Similarly for group II, there will be a single entrance test for subjects such as BA (Hons) Sociology, Political Science, Social Work and Bachelor of Arts.
JMI Vice Chancellor Najeeb Jung said that every year, the university receives a large number of outstation candidates who have to appear and wait for several entrance tests, for this reason, they decided to opt for common entrance tests which will save not only the time but also efforts by students.
The University’s new academic session is all set to begin with the plans of introducing new courses. Last year canceled BA programme has been reintroduced with revamped course structure based on Tripos Programme of the Oxford and Cambridge Universities, this year. Najeeb Jung has added that the course has been recast and the syllabus has made better and relevant to the present times. The number of the seats has also been reduced from 190 to only 50 numbers of seats.
Students who are willing to apply for the programme will have to choose compulsory three subjects out of history, geography, economics, public administration and political science and one subject from the professional courses. As per current demand, the university is going to introduce new courses such as M.Phil in Latin, American studies, European studies, MA in early childhood development, M.Tech in earthquake engineering and M.Arch. in urban regeneration.
