Mumbai: The University of Mumbai, also known as Mumbai University, has asked colleges and educational institutions affiliated to it to organise Marathi Bhasha Divas. The idea is to mark the 100th birth anniversary of legendary Marathi poet Kusumagraj on February 27, 2011 (Sunday).
As per sources, a circular issued by the university said the colleges must not only organise programmes for Marathi Bhasha Divas, but also have to submit a detailed report of the programme to the Director of Bombay College and University Development (BCUD). The divas is celebrated in the state every year on February 27 to mark the birth anniversary of kavi Kumusmagraj and in honour of the Marathi language.
However, MNS claimed the circular has been issued following their demands. Gajanan Kale, general secretary of Maharashtra Navnirman Vidhyarthi Sena (MNS students’ wing), said that they have been following up this issue in all the universities in Maharashtra. He also said that they have been requesting them to ask affiliated colleges to organise Marathi Bhasha Divas. He added that they are thankful to the vice-chancellor of Mumbai University for issuing the circular to all the colleges. Besides, he added that they will keep an eye on colleges that do not celebrate Marathi Bhasha Divas.
