NIOS to Work As Model Distance Learning Institution: Sibal

New Delhi: The 20th General Body meeting of the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) was conducted on February 10, 2011. The main purpose of conducting the meeting was to create a strategy for upgrading the school education from primary to senior secondary level.
 
Among the main personalities in the meeting were Union Minister for Human Resource Development (HRD) Kapil Sibal as President of the Society and Minister of State for HRD D. Purandeswari. At the meeting, Mr. Sibal, while guiding the functions of NIOS, said that the NIOS should be formed itself as a ‘model distance learning institution’ by fulfilling the modern needs of India, which has aimed at 500 million skilled people by 2020.
 
Referring on the importance of NIOS in the country, D. Purandeswari stated that the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) should focus on to serve the educational requirements of the disadvantaged groups as well as becoming the most reliable institution in the concept of open learning.
