New Delhi: On Monday i.e. January 24, 2011, Delhi University (DU), has celebrated Northeast festival. As per sources, more than 500 students from the region took part in the event and had an interaction with police officers on the issue of security. Students also enjoyed a colorful cultural programme, sources added.
Further, sources informed that Agatha Sangma, Minister of State for Rural Development attended the event. She was accompanied by her brother James Sangma, sources added. DU Official said that James Sangma is an alumnus of Ramjas College and was a member of the student's union, so he has a special bond with Delhi University.
In addition, the official told the sources that the main aim of the fest - Empowering Youth: The North East Students in Delhi University - was to make the students hailing from the region more familiar with the university system. It also aimed to make the students more aware about the safety measures that need to be taken care of as well as the need to foster closer integration with other people in the varsity, the official added.
