New Delhi: The Government has set up panel comprising of renowned academic experts. The panel is formed in order to review the functioning of institutions deemed to be universities and the interest of their continuance.
As per sources, the Review Committee, on the basis of their evaluation and assessment, reported that some institutions deemed to be universities met the required standards, a few others requires some time to do so and yet, some others. A total of 44, due to deficiency, did not deserve to carry functioning as institutions deemed to be universities.
The Government in standard has accepted the report of the Review Committee. However, the issue regarding implementation of the recommendations contained in the aforesaid report is currently sub judice in the Supreme Court of India. The Hon'ble Supreme Court has directed the Government to maintain status quo with regard to these 44 institutions deemed to be universities.
