Chandigarh: Right to Education (RTE) Act adds another feather to its cap! The Act has now touched the education system of Haryana. Soon after the Act, also referred as Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, was implemented in the state, the school education department refunded school fees totaling to Rs 15.71 crore. Sources revealed that the fee was paid by the students last year during the April-September session.
Surina Rajan, Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary Education, said that children aged between 6 and 14 years of age have the right to undertake free and compulsory education, as described by the RTE Act. Confirming the news, a spokesperson said that the fees, which was charged from the students, has been refunded back to them to comply with the rules of RTE Act, after it was put into practice in the state.
The Nuh district of Haryana was chosen as one of the most backward regions by the Union Human Resource Development (HRD) ministry recently. Further, the district will head the nationwide campaign to launch RTE Act across the country. Meira Kumar, Lok Sabha speaker, launched the same campaign in the presence of Union HRD minister, Kapil Sibal.
