Tiruchirapalli: Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (TANUVAS) has sent a proposal to the state government, seeking its approval for commencing one Veterinary Science College and one Fisheries College. As per sources, Veterinary Science College will start at Tirunelveli and Fisheries College will commence at Thanjavur or Tiruvarur.
Professor R Prabakaran, Vice-Chancellor, TANUVAS said that they had permitted the Madras Veterinary College to start two new courses - B Tech (Poultry protection technology) and M Tech (Food processing technology) with an initial intake of 20 and five students respectively from the academic year 2011-12.
In addition, Professor Prabakaran said that the university would shortly enter into a MoU for fisheries science courses with three foreign universities - Virginia Tech, United States; Guandong University, China, and Bangladesh Agricultural University. Further, he informed the sources that a seminar on blue-tongue diseases in livestock would be held in Chennai on January 24, 2011.
