New Delhi: A number of private business schools in India have come up against the new rule of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), which is an apex regulating body for conducting technical education in India. The institutions have decided to file the petition against this controversial rule of AICTE before high courts and the government.
The institutes include Birla Institute of Management Technology (BIMTECH), Xavier Labor Research Institute (XLRI) Jamshedpur, S.P. Jain Institute of Management and Research (SPJIMR) Mumbai and the Management Development Institute etc. Moreover, they have the support of institutes like Indian Institute of Management-Ahmedabad (IIM-A).
As per the new rule, about which notification was issued on December 28, 2010, the AICTE disallows private B-Schools to conduct their own admission tests and also Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI). The AICTE has released this notification in order to reduce the burden of admission tests for the students as well as minimize the traveling that they have to do for GDs and PIs of respective business schools. According to AICTE, it can also cope with the malpractices that sometimes private B-Schools utilize.
On the other hand, the private b-schools have alleged that the execution of such new rule could diminish the standard of management study in the country. In addition, it would also erase their autonomy in conducting admissions into their own institutes. Speaking in line with these institutes, BIMTECH Director H. Chaturvedi indicated that the new rule of AICTE will take India back 20 years when the nation yet to keep the level of its education at par with the global standards.
