University of Edinburgh Inks Pact with ICCR

New Delhi: University of Edinburgh, Scotland, has signed agreement with Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) to create a Chair of Contemporary Indian Studies at the University. This establishment of Indian studies at the University will be first of its kind in Scotland.

According to the sources, the agreement was recently signed by Stephen Hillier, Vice Principal International, University of Edinburgh and Suresh K. Goel, ICCR Director General, in Edinburgh. As per the agreement, an Indian academic will join the University as a professor.

It is anticipated that this very first step of collaboration would give a green signal to form a permanent relationship that could lead to the establishment of a Centre for Contemporary Indian Studies at Edinburgh.

While discussing about the alliance, Sir Timothy O’Shea, University Principal Professor said that the University hopes that this agreement will strengthen its excellent relationship with India, potentially creating more joint opportunities in the future and allowing it to spread further education across the world.

Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) seeks to promote mutual understanding between India and other countries and to encourage cultural exchange. The council is presently funding two chairs at British universities, and also supporting the Nehru Centre in London.
