Vedanta University Project Delayed Due To Status Quo

New Delhi: The Vedanta University project in the city of Puri in Orissa is been delayed. The project continues to remain stalled as the Supreme Court on Friday i.e. on January 28, 2011 ordered status quo in respect of land acquired or sought to be acquired for the university.

As per sources, an apex court bench of Justice D.K. Jain and Justice H.L. Dattu ordered status quo on the nature, character and possession of the land acquired or sought to be acquired. Moreover, the Supreme Court was moved by the Orissa government and the Anil Agarwal Foundation - an organization associated with the project - challenging the Orissa High Court verdict faulting the land acquisition in the project on 17 counts.

Furthermore, the high court had ordered the government and the Vedanta University authorities to return the acquired land to its original owners.
