CBSE to Offer International Curriculum in 50 Indian Schools Soon

New Delhi: Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is planning to offer international curriculum in 50 schools of India soon. As per sources, the course will be based on Geneva’s International Baccalaureate (IB) and will help the students with admission in foreign education institutions after Class 12.

The CBSE - international course will be named as CBSE-I. It will have a global curriculum based on enquiry based learning with flexibility in approach. The course will offer social studies at local and global levels and mathematics at two levels — core and elective — for secondary classes.

In addition, the assessment will be school based with a public exam in Class 10 and 12. Informing about the to-be introduced international course, Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister, Kapil Sibal, said that students who wish to apply to foreign institutions can opt for this IB based course.

Supporting the inception of the course, the Association of Indian Universities has also recognised the course. Explaining about the newly introduced curriculum, Vineet Joshi, CBSE Chairperson, said that the feedback was positive from the schools who had adopted the international course.

As compared to IB, the CBSE-I is less expensive and a quality alternative to international courses. The programme is available through the Internet, to both teachers and students. According to CBSE, the international curriculum of CBSE-I will cater to individual learning styles in terms of pedagogy and assessment.
