New Delhi: Hindu College, an affiliating college of University of Delhi, also known as Delhi University (DU), New Delhi, will launch acturial science course from August 16, 2012. The college is the first affiliating college of Delhi University (DU) to introduce this course.
As per sources, Hindu College will run this course in collaboration with an insurance firm. Acting Principal of Hindu College, Mr Pradyumn Kumar, said that the motive behind the induction of this new course is to increase the students' employability in the insurance sector.
Admission seekers should be at least 18 year old and have scored minimum 85% marks in mathematics at 10+2 level examination. However, there is no upper age limit and graduate and postgraduate degree holders securing minimum 55% marks in their qualifying examination are also welcome, Mr Kumar further added.
The subject, Acturial Science, involves the use of mathematics and statistics to understand the financial impact of future events and will definitely be helpful to control the country's insurance sector irregularities. Basically “Acturial Models” are generally used to price insurance products and that is why it is so important to understand acturial science.
The new programme will prepare the students for the exams which are conducted twice in a year by the Institute of Actuaries of India. There are 12 compulsory papers in the examinations which include maths, statistics and general insurance. Hindu College is hopeful to enroll 25-30 students for the first session of the course and will further add another section, if it gets good response, Mr Kumar concluded.
