New Delhi: Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has announced admission 2012 for a new programme, namely, Post Graduate Diploma in Food Science and Technology. This new course is being offered at the School of Agriculture for July 2012 session.
As per the notification issued by the University, it is a one year programme offered through online mode. However, practical classes for the same will be conducted at IGNOU Campus, New Delhi, and in some selected programme study centres.
According to sources, the University has been granted with an aid of Rs 75 lakh by the Ministry of Food Processing Industries to establish a Food Processing Lab for running this programme. Therefore, a laboratory will also be established in the University campus which will be used as a model study centre for conducting practical classes for the students.
In addition, the aim of this programme is to develop human resource for the fast growing food processing sector and provide knowledge & technical competencies to address the emerging issues of processing, product development, food safety, marketing, export & sustainable use of resources.
As far as eligibility criteria is concerned, graduates in Agriculture / Food Technology / Dairy Technology / Horticulture / Home Science / Agriculture Engineering and Science graduates with Chemistry / Life Science / Biotechnology / Microbiology are eligible for admission.
Existing technicians, managers, food industry professionals and technologists can also join the programme to strengthen their knowledge and technical proficiencies and to have vertical career mobility. Admission has already started and the last date for submission of application form is September 10, 2012.
