Maharashtra to adopt CMAT from 2013

Mumbai: Management admission in Maharashtra will be made through AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education), New Delhi, CMAT (Common Management Admission Test) from 2013. As per the notification issued by the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Maharashtra is planning to replace Common Entrance Test (CET) and conduct the centralized test.

AICTE has started CMAT from this academic year and has received overwhelming response with several states adapting the new testing format from this session itself. After the inclusion of CMAT, admission to renowned management institutions such as Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies (JBIMS) and Sydenham Institute of Management Studies will be carried out as per the merit of CMAT.

According to S K Mahajan, Director of DTE, the inclusion of CMAT will be helpful for selecting students as per a separate merit list of the state. Further, admissions to the first year of two-year full time AICTE-approved MBA/MMS/PGDM programmes will commence from 2013-14. He also informed that more than one lakh students have taken a sigh of relief since this will permit them to seek admission in state management institutions, which was not possible with the previous MH-CET.

AICTE Chairman S S Mantha said that most states have given their consent on adopting a centralized test for admission into management programmes across several institutions in India. In addition, admissions in universities of Kerala and Rajasthan will be performed on the basis of CMAT scores, this year. Mantha concluded by highlighting that the last date for submission of CMAT forms is likely to be extended to 10-12 days, allowing the leftover students to register their candidature. Earlier, the last date for registration was January 9.
