Ahmedabad: Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIM Ahmedabad), Gujarat, one of the leading B-school of the country, has begun its summer placement process for its Post Graduate Programme (PGP) Batch 2012-14. According to sources, cohort-based placement process has already started from today.
Though there is an uncertain economic environment, but students are anticipating a rise of around 15 to 20 percent in stipends. Moreover, hopes for IIM-A students come following continued interests of leading companies, who made attractive offers during final placements in March, this year.
As per sources, similar to the last year, this year the placements will take place in four clusters starting from November 17, 2012. The second cluster will begin on November 9, the third on November 16, and the whole summer placement process will wrap up on November 17. In the same context, members of the student placement committee quoted that given the economic scenario, consulting, ecommerce and technology companies will have more to offer, than banks and other financial firms.
Going through the last year’s summer placement scenarios, only 42 students got overseas opportunities amongst 379 students, who participated in the process. In 2011, students’ top preference was banking, financial services and insurance (BFSI) sector, with 112 students accepting offers in this area. However, other sectors that attracted students in high numbers comprised of consulting which had 81 students accepting offers, FMCG with 45 students and IT with 31 students.
