A-VIEW Software to Connect Over 20000 Colleges for Online Classes

New Delhi: Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has proposed to connect over 20000 colleges across the country, through a video conferencing software, named as A-VIEW. This online platform will not only connect the colleges but also enable their students to attend lectures of renowned faculties through online classes. Declaration for the same was made by Ashok Thakur, Secretary, Department of Higher Education, MHRD, during the first national meeting with 60 Vice Chancellors of various universities, held recently.

According to the sources, highlighting the importance and reach of online education, Thakur discussed about this software and its uses, at the meeting. Addressing the senior educationists, Thakur also asked them to start using A-VIEW in order to enhance the quality of education in their Universities and affiliated colleges. Providing a free of cost near classroom experience, this initiative can certainly work as a good alternative to deal with the shortage of qualified and skilled faculty, which has severely impeded the higher education system of the country, he added.

A-VIEW (Amrita Virtual Interactive E-Learning World) is an internet based knowledge sharing platform, developed by Amrita University, Kollam, Kerala, under NME-ICT project of the ministry. This innovative software enables online education and meetings through various communication modules such as Audio / Video, Whiteboard collaboration, Content sharing etc. Moreover, the software can also work on Aakash tablet.
Reportedly, A-VIEW has already been installed at more than 450 Universities and 2000 colleges across the country. Amongst all, some of the popular ones are Mumbai University, North Eastern Hill University, NITTTR Calcutta, Pondicherry University, IIIT Hyderabad and Babasaheb Ambedkar University etc.
