This year, the Anna University has decided to offer a bridge course in mathematics for first year students. As per sources, the bridge course is of 15-hour module, which will be conducted before the commencement of regular classes for the students. The main focus will be on Class 12-level basic maths, which is essential for understanding engineering mathematics.
According to a statement issued by Anna University Vice-Chancellor-in-Charge P Kaliraj has said that most of the students, who failed in their first semester exam, could not pass in fundamental mathematics paper. He said that an analysis showed the mass failure was because many had skipped certain portions in the Class 11 and 12 maths syllabus. He added that as a result the students were unable to clear the maths paper in college. Besides, the academics said the poor quality of faculty was also the reason for the high rate of failures in many courses.
Anna University, located in the southern part of the city of Chennai is one of the well-known Universities of the state. It came into existence on September 4, 1978 as a Unitary University. The University aims at promoting the cooperation between the academic and industrial communities besides encouraging research activities. The University's main campus is spread over a sprawling land area, which extends over a few hectares adjoining the Adyar River on the north and Raj Bhavan on the south.
