Varanasi: Banaras Hindu University (BHU) will soon establish its new campus in the state of Maharashtra. Reportedly, the state government of Maharashtra had announced to offer 200 acres of land in Amravati district for the same. This proposed campus is expected to be ready by next year i.e. 2014. Confirming the news, BHU spokesperson informed the media that, the proposal for a campus in the state was presented by the alumni association of BHU Mumbai chapter.
He further added that, the proposal has been accepted and also announced in the latest alumni meet of the association which was held on March 10 (in Mumbai). As per sources, Uddhav Thackeray, Pramukh (chief) of Shiv Sena, was present there as chief guest, and also, appreciated this initiative taken ahead by the state government. As per reports, this campus will mainly have an agriculture college. However, the formal decisions are yet to be finalized for the same.
Apart from the Shiv Sena Pramukh, Dr R G Singh, Director, Institute of Medical Sciences of BHU, and GS Agrawal, the General Secretary of Alumni Association of BHU Mumbai chapter, were also present as a special guest. In addition, as announced earlier, during the ceremony, the name of Shatabdi Municipal Hospital in Mumbai was formally changed to Late Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya Hospital. The association has over 800 members registered amongst which, over 200 were present at the event.
The University admissions have been started from March 5, 2013. It is notified that, from this year, the application process for the same has been made completely online. Due to this change, the University has set up around 115 help desks in the campus to facilitate students in online application procedure. In addition, varsity has also issued two helpline numbers i.e., 7275184274 and 9450540927, in order to assist the problems of the student filling up online application forms.
