DU to Keep Its Course Structure Flexible

New Delhi: University of Delhi has decided to keep its course structure flexible so as to add or remove contents according to the current needs of the students. Talking about the decision, the University officials have said that the education system should be students friendly and relevant so as it could develop interests rather than just being the burden of books.

Citing the example of BA programme's course structure, which has been revised after 40 years in 2004, officials have also added that the revision of courses content under the newly introduced four year undergraduate structure will be done as per the requirement, even on annual basis.

Moreover, if teachers feel the need for change into the course content during the academic year, they can simply recommend it to the committee of courses. There are so many programmes that have not been changed since a long time and students are forced to study them. After the implementation of this new system, course review will become easy and students will be able to learn new and fresh contents.

Umesh Rai, Director, South Campus, DU has said that the four year format is not something unique at the international level as the top most universities of the world offer education through this format. It gives freedom to make education system productive and effective. From this academic session, titles will be assigned to the courses and teachers will decide what to teach, he further added.

University of Delhi, among the largest and most prestigious universities of the country, has a wide range of faculties and around 80 colleges spread all over the city. DU has been awarded recognition from UGC for outstanding academic work. It is an esteemed university of international repute and degrees awarded by it carry value worldwide.
