The International Institute of Information and Technology (IIIT), Bhubaneswar has been accorded unitary university status after the IIIT-Bhubaneswar Bill - 2013 was passed in the Odisha Assembly on Tuesday 27th August, 2013.
The IIIT Bhubaneswar was established in 2006 by the Government of Odisha. The Bill passed on Tuesday states that the university will work closely with the government, industry and other users and develop solutions to enhance delivery.
The varsity status will enable the institution to design its own academic curriculum and admission process. It will also enable the institute to innovate and pursue its objectives without depending on any other state-run bodies for assistance.
In 2007-08, the institute started imparting education in M.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering programme while the B.Tech programme in four disciplines started in the year 2009-10 with approval of AICTE and affiliation of Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT).

IIIT Bhubaneswar is located in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The institute was established in 2006 by the Government of Odisha. The institute is affiliated to Biju Patnaik University of Technology. The campus is spread in 23 acres covering classrooms, laboratories, library, hostel, faculty quarters and auditorium. The IIIT Bhubaneswar started operating from September 2007. It offers both undergraduate and post graduate courses. Undergraduate courses are available in various streams such as electrical and electronics, electronics and communication, information technology and computer science. But M.tech and PhD programmes is available only in computer science. Admission to undergraduate course is offered through Odisha Joint Entrance Examination.
