Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP) to Establish A New Centre in Bangalore

Bangalore: The Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP), Mumbai (Head Office), is all set to establish one of its  centres in Bangalore, Karnataka. The main objective of this new centre will be to provide training and consultancy in packaging technology to micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) across the state.
 
In a recent press meet, N.C. Saha, the Director of IIP, informed that sixth of its kind, this to-be-launched high-tech centre will be constructed with a cost of Rs 5 crore (Rs 50 million). The financial aid for the same is being given by the Ministry of Commerce. The other five training centres of IIP are located in Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai and New Delhi.
 
Discussing about the benefits of the centre, Saha said that this new Institute will surely enhance the capacity of the packaging and allied units in the state. He further informed that the construction of the project will start in mid-February, so that it is finished in six months and the training programme can start by theend of this year. This centre will also host the national packaging expo 'IndiaPack' and a national conference on packaging in 2014, he added.
 
As an autonomous body, the institute handles activities related to packaging like testing and quality certification, training and education, consultancy services on packaging standardization, formulation of packaging specification and cost reduction. The IIP is also associated with international bodies like the World Packaging Organization (WPO), Asian Packaging Federation (APF), International Trade Centre (ITC), Geneva and has been working for the overall growth and development of packaging globally.
