Mysore: The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) 2013 is likely to be postponed due to Karnataka polls, scheduled on same on Sunday May 5, 2013. As per sources, the Karnataka government has requested the HRD ministry to reschedule the national level medical exam. National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) will be conducted by CBSE for admission into MBBS and BDS courses for the session 2013-14 on Sunday, 5 May 2013.
As per sources, approximately 40,000 medical aspirants are going to take the test. Karnataka has 7 centers in its 5 cities - Bangalore, Belgaum, Mangalore,nn Gulbarga and Davangere. There will be an involvement of around 15,000 staff and many others in exam related duties. Moreover, on the same day Karnataka goes to poll.
According to a statement issued by SA Ramdas, medical education minister, around 1 lac people might miss out on voting in case NEET is conducted on May 5. He mentioned that they have asked the HRD ministry to postpone NEET in Karnataka. Mr Ramdas also informed that the ministry has responded to their request, and is contemplating whether to postpone NEET nationally or to hold it on some other day in Karnataka. Besides, the final judgement for Karnataka students taking up NEET will be known by April 11, when the apex court will deliver its verdict on conducting NEET or CET for medical courses.
