Patna: Patna College, one of the oldest institutions of higher education in the country's eastern region, is likely to introduce three new undergraduate courses from the next session i.e. from year 2013. This esteemed institution is affiliated to Patna University and celebrated its 151st foundation day with huge fanfare and zeal, recently.
On this prestigious occasion, Devanand Konwar, Governor-cum-Chancellor was the chief guest. As a symbol of pride of 150 years of the college, Konwar released 151 balloons at the event. During the occasion, while addressing the faculty members, students and alumni of the college, the Governor described the college as India's brain capital which had been making a profound impact on the academic life of the country.
Later, Shambhu Nath Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Patna University, in his presidential remarks, said even though the college has had a glorious past, its present needed improvement. Also, to mark the sesquicentennial year of the college, Patna University decided to introduce three new modern courses in the college, which are disaster management, information technology and econometrics, from the next academic session, he added.
In addition, the VC also informed that the undergraduate course in econometrics would be introduced in the college for the first time in the country. Later, Binod Kumar Roy, Former Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court, who was the Guest of Honour, expressed his joy by recalling how three generations of his family studied in this college.
