Union HRD Minister lays foundation stone for permanent site of NIT at Arunachal Pradesh

Itanagar: The foundation stone for permanent site of first National Institute of Technology (NIT) at Arunachal Pradesh was laid by M M Pallam Raju, Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister, recently. The new NIT is being built amidst the picturesque Jote Village, which is around 35 km from capital (Itanagar) of the state.
 
After laying the foundation stone, the Minister affirmed that the establishment of NIT will ensure admissions into the undergraduate courses for students of the state, which would definitely strengthen the economy of the region directly as well as indirectly. The minister further added that, it would also help in improving human development index in the state.
 
Admiring the initiative, Raju also said that the NITs (which were earlier known as the RECs) have been making excellent contribution in producing trained human resources in the field of engineering. He went on to inform, that the government has been taking progressive steps to work towards reformation of these institutions, so that they can contribute more in the national development. He added that, in order to become world class institutions not only in engineering but in manpower development, these institutions must develop of new technologies, through research and innovation.
 
During his visit to the state, the HRD minister visited the Rajiv Gandhi University and assured ministry's support for the infrastructural and academic development of the central varsity. As per sources, the temporary campus of the NIT was established at Yupia in July 2010. Presently, the institute is offering undergraduate (UG) courses in Computer Science, Electronics & Electrical and Electronics & Computers Engineering.
