AMU to Reopen on May 18

Aligarh: The Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) announces that it would be reopened on May 18, 2011. The University was closed suddenly on April 30, 2011, due to a violent all-night conflict that took place between students' groups.
 
As per sources, during a meeting held on Thursday (i.e. on May 5, 2011), the decision to reopen AMU on the specified date was taken by Vice Chancellor of the university P.K. Abdul Azis, the deans of faculties and principals of colleges. Earlier, the HRD Minister Kapil Sibal updated Congress President Sonia Gandhi regarding the situation at the university. Sibal informed regarding the shut down of the University after students' groups clashes, during which bullets were also fired.
 
Moreover, the University will offer the B Tech final year and all final semester students of other faculties with hostel facilities, again from May 16, 2011. In addition, the university administration has decided to reopen the university after VC P.K. Abdul Azis had been subtly forced by the Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry to reopen the university as soon as possible.
 
In addition, on Thursday, it was also decided that postgraduate and diploma examinations in the Faculty of Medicine will be held as per the schedule that had been declared previously. The University has decided that the class IX Entrance Test will be conducted on May 25, 2011. Moreover, it was also decided that Deans of concerned faculties will submit the entire examination schedule for their respective faculties, so that it can be notified on the University website.
 
Furthermore, the Principal, University Polytechnic, has informed that the university is done with the I Year theory papers, though, practical examinations are left. He proposed that these practical exams be held in the month of July 2011 to avoid problem to the students. Moreover, it was decided that the second semester in the Faculty of Management Studies and Research and Faculty of Commerce examinations will be conducted in the month of July 2011, as these students have currently gone for practical training.
