IIM-A PGP Batch Comprises of 94% Engineering Students

This year, the Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP) batch at Indian Institute of Management - Ahmedabad (IIM-A) comprise of 94% students with engineering background.

Earlier, the institution attracted students from varied educational fields. However, after the introduction of Right to Information (RTI) Act, this variety is missing. This is because the institute has to follow certain procedures for admission.

Director of IIMA Prof Samir Barua has said they used to manage variety in the PGP batch, but now the group is dominated by engineering students. He also said that earlier there was diversity in the batch. But after introduction of Right to Information (RTI) Act, they have to divulge details about students. Besides, he mentioned that this seems to be the reason for increasing engineering students in PGP.

Furthermore, he said that as they have to follow certain process while providing admission. This obliges them to take students with the right educational background. Lastly, he asserted that engineers do well, no matter what.
