IP University Introduces Fellowship for PhD Students

The Guru Gobind Singh Indraprashtha University (GGSIPU), popularly known as IP University, is launching new fellowships for its PhD students. In order to promote excellence at the research level, the University has launched 11 new fellowships for its PhD students amounting to Rs 17 lakh.
 
Dilip K Bandyopadhyay, Vice-Chancellor (VC), GGSIPU, said that they had been thinking about providing a structure to the fellowships and now they have an outline prepared for it. He informed that there are 11 schools under GGSIPU and they have decided to give one scholarship to one student from every school.
 
Mr Bandyopadhyay has said that under the scheme, students who qualify for the scholarship will get Rs 12,000 with an additional contingency grant of Rs 15,000 per-month, for four years. He also said that on the basis of their research work, the PhD students will be promoted from junior fellow to senior fellow.
 
Furthermore, he added that many PhD students from GGSIPU are currently availing various kinds of funding from the UGC, CSR, etc. He said that they also have a scheme for part-time PhD scholars, where they are offered Rs 5,000 as grant to purchase chemicals and other material. He added that this grant is also given to those PhD students who do not have a regular source of income.
 
Sources informed that the University is also planning to admit PhD students twice a year i.e. in the months of August and January.
