Jamia to Organize Discussion on “Female Gaze in Popular Culture” Tomorrow

Jamia Milia Islamia (JMI) University will organize a discussion on “Female Gaze in Popular Culture” with contemporary writers such as Advaita Kala, Anuja Chauhan and Meenakshi Reddy Madhavan tomorrow, i.e. on September 8, 2011 at 3.00 pm. The venue will be Mir Anis Room, Dayar-I Mir Taqi Mir, Administrative Block, Jamia Millia Islamia.
 
Advaita Kala’s first novel Almost Single (2007) became an instant bestseller with more than 100,000 copies sold. It was translated into Indian languages including Hindi and Marathi, the novel has been published in the USA as well as France. In addition, she entered Bollywood with her story for Yash Raj Film Anjaana Anjaani (2010), and has also written Kahaani, which stars Vidya Balan. Presently she is working on her next novel.
 
Anuja Chauhan is the author of the bestselling - The Zoya Factor (2008), which won the Cosmopolitan magazine's Fun Fearless Female award for literature. Besides, the Delhi-based Chauhan's successful advertising career brags of lines like Yeh Dil Mange More, Mera Number Kab Aayega and Oye Bubbly. Further, she continued her literary success with Battle for Bittora, which is set against the background of Indian politics. Sources have informed that her debut novel will soon be made into a movie under Shahrukh Khan's production house.
 
Meenakshi Reddy Madhavan's is the woman behind long-running and popular blog The Compulsive Confessor. Her debut novel You Are Here (2008) was published by Penguin after they liked her blog. She made her venture in Young Adult fiction with her second novel Confessions of a Listmaniac (2010). She writes for Outlook and The Asian Age when she is not busy with her blog.
