Jamia to Organize Two Day International Trade and Investment Conference from March 2

The Department of Economics, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) University in collaboration with Centre for WTO Studies and IIFT is going to organize a two-day International Conference on “Changing Structure of International Trade and Investment: Implications for Growth and Development” on March 2-3, 2011.

According to the press release issued by the University, the conference has three special sessions for broad deliberations, namely Panel Discussions on “Changing Structure of Trade and Investment: Losers and Gainers”, Policy Session on “Global Policy Coordination: Lesson from Current Economic Crisis” and Special Session on “Stakes of Emerging Economies in Doha Development Round”.

The conference will lay emphasis on the impact of trade and investment on economic growth and development, which has got prominence in the procedure of globalization. The aim of the conference is to debate, deliberate and analyzes issues related to trade and investment. It will provide a forum to international trade experts, policy makers, academia and civil society to discuss their various dimensions and linkages. Moreover, it is expected that more than 100 research or policy papers on the theme of this conference will be presented and discussed by scholars from various countries such as USA, Taiwan, China, Jordan, Iran, Pakistan, Bangladesh, India etc.

In addition, researchers from Jamia Millia Islamia, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi School of Economics, Centre for WTO Studies, National Council for Applied Economic Research, Research and Information System for Developing Countries, Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations, International Institute of Public Finance and many other reputed academic and research institutions from India will be participating in the event. The officials of Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India will be involved in various sessions of the Conference.
