Mumbai University Likely To Get Incubation Centre

Mumbai: Mumbai University is likely to get an incubation centre at its campus for students from the university and affiliated colleges, very soon. The incubation center aims at offering students with the hands-on industry experience also to encourage entrepreneurship while studying.

As per sources, the state government’s higher and technical education department is contemplating setting up of incubation centres at four state universities including Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur and Aurangabad. The minister of higher and technical education, Rajesh Tope, has initiated the plan. A committee has been set up to study the need and scope of an incubation centre.

Moreover, Tope said that the idea is to boost young entrepreneurs. He said that several premier institutes already have these centres, which teaches and supports students in setting up small businesses. He added that in the long run these centres will also facilitate establishment of small scale industries

It is anticipated that once an incubation centre is formed, the universities can invite individuals from any sector to come and promote small business ideas. Also, the fundamental aim is to bridge the gap between industry and the academic world.

Furthermore, Tope also added that they will provide them with an infrastructure and all other facilities to set up small businesses. He said that corporates from banking, manufacturing, and consultancy sectors can come to the university’s centres for promoting business ideas and they will also have skilled manpower in the form of our students. Besides, the department has not allocated any budget for the centres yet and is awaiting the submission of committee report.
