NEET Postponed, AIPMT on Cards

New Delhi: Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced the postponement of National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test for under graduates (NEET-UG), scheduled to be held in January-February 2012. The medical entrance test has now been put on hold and rescheduled for the academic year 2013-14, instead of 2012-13.

As per the statement released by CBSE, the decision was made by the Supreme Court after a petition was filed by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare with regard to objections raised by many States for exempting under graduates taking the NEET 2012. Ever since NEET for undergraduate courses was announced by Medical Council of India (MCI), the survival of All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT) was in great doubt.

Further, various States were in a dilemma regarding the NEET-UG, thereby resisting it for different causes. The whole validity of NEET was questioned by Tamil Nadu, while Maharashtra opted to keep away from the entrance test until the syllabi was as par.

The news of the deferment of NEET-UG by one year has brought a huge sigh of relief to medical aspirants. The thought of preparing for an early NEET will now be no more a burden for the students. Besides, the announcement of AIPMT dates by CBSE has added to the delight of the students preparing for the entrance test.

The Board further informed that it will now conduct the regular All India Pre-Medical / Pre-Dental Entrance Examination in 2012. However, the test will only be held only for the 15% all India quota undergraduate seats. The preliminary examination of AIPMT is scheduled to be held on April 1, 2012, while the final test will take place on May 13, 2012.

Furthermore, the eligibility criteria, exam centers, syllabus, paper pattern, and other related details will remain the same as those of AIPMT held in 2011. The schedule for submitting AIPMT 2012 application forms will be issued by the Board shortly.
