About 1.96 Lakh Students to Take AIEEE Online Test This Year

Mumbai: About 1.96 lakh aspiring engineering students have opted for computer-based All India Engineering Entrance Exam (AIEEE) this year i.e. 2012. AIEEE is one of the prominent engineering entrance exams conducted across the country by CBSE, with more than 10 lakh students aspiring to take the test every year. The offline AIEEE exam would be conducted only on April 29, whereas, the online AIEEE exam can be taken from May 7 to May 26.

As a part of the CBSE’s move to encourage more students to pick for the computer-based test this year, it does not have any centres for paper/pen test (offline exam) in 22 major cities in the country, including Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru and Kolkata. However, some students who are not confident about the computer-based testing have now opted for exam centres in neighboring smaller cities or satellite towns in order to avoid it.

Last year, around 11.13 lakh students applied for the exam, while, this year, the numbers of applications received by the board is around 13 lakhs, which is about 16% rise. In addition, this was the first year when CBSE had made online application compulsory for all offline and online takers of examination. In the second year of inception of the online exam, the total number of students taking the online exam has led to a rise from 4% last year to 15% this year, of the total number of applications.

In the same context, Rama Sharma, CBSE spokesperson, said that last year, the online exam process went smoothly, though the numbers were less. Moreover, the test scores of AIEEE are accepted by several institutes in the country and therefore, the overall demand is also high, which has led to more students opting for the online test this year.

Sharma also informed that students, whose pages are not confirmed, need not to worry as the information uploaded is being processed and therefore, will take time to show confirmation. However, in case students have to make any corrections in their online application forms, they can do it till January 10, added Sharma.
