CBSE Exams for Class X & XII to Start from March 1

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) final exams for class X and XII are scheduled to start from March 1, 2012. As per the date sheet / exam schedule issued by the Board, the first exam for Class X will be of painting, whereas for Class XII, it will be English.

While discussing about the preparations, K K Choudhury, CBSE Regional Officer, said that the groundwork for all examinations has been started. The question papers have already been sent out from Delhi to different centres across the region. There are around 285 centres all over the northeast and around 753 schools in the northeast, from which approximately 85,000 candidates of class X and XII would be appearing for the exams, he added.

Choudhury further explained that this year at the senior secondary level, that is, Class XII, students were given a choice to opt for either board-conducted or school-conducted examination. However, it is seen that in the northeast, students preferred the exam conducted by the Board over the latter. He also said that this year, CBSE has introduced the Board's international curriculum in Indian schools and this has been notified to schools in the northeast as well.

In context to CBSE’s international curriculum, Choudhury said that it would be more project-based and the schools would now offer both the courses for students to choose from. Although, the CBSE international curriculum would vary across regions as CBSE have included region-specific issues and important historical events in the social science subject.

Moreover, the CBSE curriculum will stress more on vocational subjects, with hospitality and tourism being the latest subjects that have been introduced in the curriculum. Discussing the new changes in the curriculum, the Regional Officer said that vocational subjects are the need of the hour and the idea is to provide the students the option of studying subjects that would help them professionally after the board finals.
