GGSIPU to Establish a New Institute of Design in its Campus

New Delhi: Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU), Delhi, has announced to launch a new institute of design in its East campus. The institute will be established on the lines with National Institute of Design (NID). This to-be launched institute will offer programmes in various disciplines of design including textile, manufacturing and interior, etc. As per sources, the University is likely to collaborate with NID to sketch out the curriculum for the programmes to be offered in the new institute.
 
To explain more about the same, DK Bandyopadhyay, Vice Chancellor (VC), said that the University already possesses a school for architecture and planning. But, with design having become a sought-after discipline in the contemporary world scenario, the new institute of design would be timely and there is a growing demand for professionals in this field. It will be an integrated institute of design, he added.
 
He also said that the institute will be able to accommodate around 1500 students. In addition, it will have hostels, a full-fledged library and other educational facilities. He further informed that the curriculums of programmes are being planned and will be interdisciplinary. Besides, the work on building the institute will begin early next year and is expected to be ready for students between 2015 and 2016.
 
Furthermore, the esteemed University is planning to launch three new centres of studies as well — study of indigenous literature, film and culture studies and development and planning.
