New Delhi: Good news for all the students of Delhi University (DU)! The University is all set to go tech-savvy with the introduction of smart cards for students. The new smart cards introduced would hold the information about the student, like their admit card, library card or any other membership card for his lifetime.
As per sources, this Unique Identification Tag (UIT) would be introduced from the upcoming academic session 2010-11, which will ensure details like course, year and marks scored available, at the click of a button. Students would be entitled with the tag as soon as they are enrolled in the university, which would enable them track their chosen courses, timetable and marks scored.
DU first introduced the idea of UIT a year and a half ago, where the Vice Chancellor had formed an enterprise resource planning committee under which it was to be developed. A global tender was floated among the IT firms such as HCL, TCS, and Wipro, where the Wipro bagged the contract to develop the system. All data transmission between the student and institution would be route through the tag. Moreover, teachers would be able to track the attendance, date of admission or the marks of students.
