BITS PIani Enrolls 21 Board Toppers This Year

New Delhi: This year, 21 board toppers got enrolled into the renowned Birla Institute of Technology & Sciences (BITS), Pilani. These 21 students were admitted under the scheme of Direct Admission to Board Toppers. All other admissions to the university were based on merit determined by the online test, BITSAT. This announcement was made by Vice Chancellor Prof L K Maheshwari on the occasion of Orientation Programme for New Admission students held at BITS Pilani held on July 30, 2010.
 
All the 21 students who secured the admissions belong to the following Boards: Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, CBSE Chennai and Gawahati, Chattisgarh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, J & K, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Orissa, Rajasthan, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh and Uttaranchal.
 
While addressing the parents who were accompanying the new students, the Vice Chancellor said that they were there all because of their wards, who secured admission to this university through a highly competitive test. He said that admissions to all the three campuses of BITS namely Pilani, Goa and Hyderabad are made purely on the basis of merit. He also mentioned that nearly one lakh candidates took the online test BITSAT for the 2000 seats, in three campuses put together.
 
Furthermore, the Vice Chancellor, giving the highlights of BITS Pattern of Education, said that the education offers various flexibilities including Dual Degrees, Transfers, Admission in both semesters, Admission with advanced standing, etc. He said that the Pilani campus is getting renovated. He also added that 890 hostel rooms have already been renovated and other hostel rooms will also be renovated soon.
 
Apart from that, Vice Chancellor Designate, Prof Bijendra Nath Jain (who will be taking charge from August 1, 2010), while addressing the newly admitted students said that their four years life in the campus will transform them from a teenager to an adult. He added that while the institute will offer them a world class curriculum, most dedicated teachers and unique industry experience, they need to be clear about their goals and remain focused in order to obtain best out of their stay in the institute.
 
In addition, Prof Jain called upon the new students to make a judicious mix of both academic and extra curricular activities. Encouraging the students to participate in one or more extra curricular activities, he cautioned them against getting addicted to internet. He said, several students have ruined their careers by getting addicted to internet. He also called upon the students to remain close to their parents and share their problems with both parents and friends and not to keep it to themselves.
