BITS Pilani Sports Meet Scheduled from Sept 15

Pilani: The five-day annual sports meet of the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Pilani, namely BITS Open Sports Meet (BOSM) will commence from September 15, 2010 (Monday).
 
This year, BOSM in its 25th edition, will host a variety of games and sports events including Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Bodybuilding, Cricket, Football, Hockey, Swimming, Powerlifting, Tennis, Carrom, Chess, Squash etc. In addition, a Cyber Game Festival called Ignition will also be conducted this year wherein gaming will be done on computers.
 
Following the main event, the organizers will hold a one day sports event for village schools of Pilani in order to give encouragement to sports in schools of the village. The five-day sports festival will witness participation by over 1400 sportspersons and athletes from 60 different colleges of the nation. Moreover, a college from Sri Lanka will also be participating in the festival this year.
 
As per sources, BOSM began as an annual sports event in 1986. Organizers of the festival are making efforts to rope in some of the best sportsmen as guests at the mega-event. This year, there has been overwhelming response to BOSM, according to the event organizers.
 
Vishal Agrawal, Sports Secretary, has said that over the years, BOSM has established its name as one of the biggest and most esteemed college festivals of India with participation from all over the country. He also added that with over 1400 sportspersons from 60 colleges participating in a variety of events, he is sure this year's BOSM is going to be of great interest to both sports lovers and media persons.
 
Moreover, this year's BOSM will be sponsored by various business houses. While Nokia will be the Platinum Sponsor, other major sponsors include the Steel Authority of India, State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur and ICICI Bank. Food sponsors for the event are Domino's Pizza and Cafe Coffee Day and garment sponsors are Adidas and Reebok.
