Dispute Over The Semester System Disrupt Classes at DU

New Delhi: The classes in Delhi University were disrupted on Tuesday i.e. August 17, 2010, due to the prolonged scuffle between the Delhi University Teachers' Association (DUTA) and the Delhi University (DU) administration over the semester system. The classes in Delhi University (DU), for the current academic session, were started last month.

About 1000 teachers protested outside the office of DU Vice Chancellor Deepak Pental. The protest was against the implementation of the semester system in DU, as the teachers from the university assumed that they are being forced to apply semester system in science courses.

DUTA President Aditya Narayan Mishra said that after the demonstration held on Tuesday i.e. August 17, 2010, DUTA is planning to protest against the issue of negative service conditions for varsity teachers by holding a march to the Parliament, on August 19.

Further, Mishra told that the teachers of the university are monitoring a strike on August 23 and 24 and a seminar to be held on August 25, against the implementation of semester system. He further added that they will also organize a relay Dharna on August 26, 27, 30 and 31, in front of the Vice Chancellor's office, to protest against the forceful implementation of the semester system for undergraduate science courses.

St. Stephen's College, Indraprastha College, Lady Shri Ram College and Dyal Singh College are some of the colleges that remain unaffected by the activity.
