New Delhi: On Sunday i.e. February 7, 2010, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has made the announcement that it is likely to launch a certificate programme in tele-centre management. IGNOU also mentioned that the newly introduced certificate programme is to be made available in 10 Indian, and 10 international languages. As per sources, the programme would be launched in partnership with the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and Microsoft.
The programme is mainly designed for individuals who are already working in tele-centres or interested in setting up one. Further, the 10-module course would be first made available in English and Hindi and later introduced in other languages. According to IGNOU officials, the course would also be helpful to those interested in the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) for development. A tele-centre is a public place where people can access computers, the internet and other digital technologies that enables them to gather information.
