IGNOU Makes Great Contribution to India's Talent Pool, Says IGNOU VC

New Delhi: On Sunday i.e. April 18, 2010,V.N. Rajasekharan Pillai, Vice Chancellor (VC) of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), said that that the university has contributed 194,196 post-graduates, 197,722 graduates, 309,255 vocational diploma holders and 407,298 certificate professionals over the past 25 years to India's talent pool and workforce.
 
According to Mr Pillai, over 200,000 students sign up for IGNOU programmes every year. The reason is that IGNOU offers a flexible mode of operation with open and distance learning courses having many takers wishing to pursue higher education.
 
Furthermore, a big achievement for IGNOU is that it is reportedly the largest Open University in the world with over 338 programmes being offered through 21 schools, 12 divisions and to about 2.89 million students.
 
Established through an Act of the Parliament of India, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has been set up for providing quality higher education in various disciplines through distance learning. Headquartered at New Delhi, IGNOU is ranked as the world's largest university.
